Configure AskCodi API

Connect Roocode to AskCodi for diverse AI models. Use different models for different coding modes.

Why Connect Roocode to AskCodi?

Roocode uses standard providers by default. Connect AskCodi for specialized models. Use fast models for Ask Mode. Use powerful models for Architect Mode.

Prerequisites

• VS Code with Roocode extension
• AskCodi account with API key
• Internet connection
• Basic VS Code settings knowledge

Your API key connects to multiple AskCodi models via single endpoint.

Step 1: Install Roocode Extension

1. Open VS Code Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X)
2. Search "Roocode"
3. Install extension with ID RooVeterinaryInc.roo-cline
4. Reload VS Code after installation

Step 2: Open Roocode Settings

1. Click Roocode icon in VS Code sidebar
2. Find API Provider settings section
3. Look in main configuration panel or settings gear icon

Step 3: Select OpenAI Compatible Provider

1. In API Provider dropdown, select "OpenAI Compatible"
2. This enables OpenAI-compatible API services like AskCodi

Step 4: Configure Base URL

1. Enable "Use custom base URL" option
2. Enter AskCodi API endpoint:

https://api.askcodi.com/v1

Step 5: Add API Key

1. Go to AskCodi dashboard and copy API key
2. In Roocode settings, find API Key field
3. Paste your AskCodi API key
4. Keep key secure

Step 6: Configure Models

After adding API key, Roocode fetches models from AskCodi. Choose models for different modes:

• Ask Mode: Fast, accurate response models
• Code Mode: Code generation and understanding models
• Architect Mode: Strong reasoning models
• Debug Mode: Problem-solving models
• Orchestrator Mode: Powerful task coordination models

Step 7: Test Integration

1. Test Ask Mode with simple query
2. Test Code Mode with multi-step request
3. Verify responses come through with good response times

Optimization Tips

Model Strategy: Use different models for different tasks. Fast models for Ask Mode. Powerful models for Architect Mode.

Usage Monitoring: Check AskCodi dashboard to monitor API usage across Roocode modes.

Performance: If responses are slow, try different models or check internet connection.

Security: Rotate API key periodically in AskCodi and update in Roocode.

Troubleshooting

Connection Failures:

• Verify URL: https://api.askcodi.com/v1
• Confirm API key is correct
• Check internet and firewall settings

Authentication Errors:

• Check API key formatting (no extra spaces)
• Regenerate key if needed

Model Loading Issues:

• Refresh model list or restart VS Code
• Confirm AskCodi account has model access
